CNU JUNIOR BROADCASTERS' ALLIANCE CARRY ON 2ND SESSION OF SIBYA WEBINAR

Updated: Sep 19, 2021

CNU Junior Broadcasters' Alliance resume the second session of its three-part Sibya webinar series at 1:30 pm, Friday via Zoom and Facebook live.

With the topic, "Students as Fact-Checking Detective," ABS-CBN reporter Mr. Jervis Manahan shared his insights and expertise as the speaker of the event.

"Verify, verify, verify, walang katapusang verify. Only by verifying sources, only then we can change the world," Manahan mentioned in the webinar.

He added that news is not just about getting facts, but also a process of verification.

"False information could really deceived people and it's very unhealthy, very risky when people get to consume this kind of information," he said.

Manahan explained that during this time of pandemic, fake news causes risk and danger to a lot of people especially to those information that circulates in social media.

"The danger of perpetuating false news can affect life," he added.

He addressed that citizens should be media literate by investigating the validity and accuracy of the consumed information.

At the same time, people in the mainstream such as reporters and journalists should possess higher media literacy knowledge since they are the people who disseminate the news to the public.

The organization gave an exclusive Sibya merchandise to a lucky winner of its Ka-sibya, ka-selfie program during the webinar.

The last part of the webinar series will be on September 24, Friday with the topic, "Citizen Journalism in the face of rapidly evolving media."
